THE COACHES
Kelly Donlevy, Head Coach
Bio:
Our head coach is the only non-Barracuda on the coaching staff, but has been a devoted swimmer
since she was 10 years old. She had a very successful career as a USS swimmer on Long Island,
followed by a spot on The University of Maryland women’s team. These days, Kelly is still in
the water, competing in triathlons every summer. She believes young swimmers should love the
sport in order to be successful and tries to focus on the positives of every swim, be it at
practice or a meet.
Alaine Caccavallo
Bio:
Alaine is a former Barracuda, and has been a member of our coaching staff since 2005. She has
coached previously with local summer swim teams, where her ability to teach and motivate young
swimmers led to promotions to head coach at both Averill and Echo Park pools. Alaine continues
to swim as a Masters swimmer here at CIY and competes in triathlons during the summer months.
Alaine works as a Physical Therapist at Winthrop University Hospital since completing her degree
at Boston University, and is currently completing graduate coursework at St. John’s University to
become a Physician’s Assistant.
Mike Kokoszka
Bio:
Mike swam with the Barracudas for six years, in addition to enjoying a four year stint with the
Chaminade HS team. Mike was never the fastest but always strove to improve. He continued his
athletic ventures in college, where he rowed on the varsity lightweight rowing team. Mike kept
up with swimming as he competed in triathlons during his summers. Nowadays, you can catch Mike
swimming laps at the Y as he prepares to get back in shape and maybe do a few more triathlons.
Nicole Mulligan, Junior Development Coach
Bio:
Nicole joined the CIY Barracudas coaching staff after completing 5 years as a successful member
of the team. Nicole competed at YMCA Nationals twice as a member of our successful women’s relay
teams, and is currently studying at Adelphi University. Nicole has made a positive impact in our
Mini-Cudas and Cudas programs with her ability to present challenging workouts while still focusing
on stroke development.
Steve Olwell
Bio:
Steve joined the CIY coaching staff in the summer of 2003 after 2 years of swimming for the Barracudas.
As a swimmer, he quickly achieved the respect of his teammates through his hard effort and easygoing style.
Steve’s continued dedication to the team and its traditions, along with his understanding of stroke
mechanics, ability to communicate with swimmers, and the strength-training knowledge he possesses as a
key staff member in the Y’s Health and Wellness Department, make him an invaluable member of our coaching
staff. Steve has recently completed graduate studies in sports management at St. John’s University, and now
works with the NY Islanders.
Dwayne Stewart
Bio:
One of the most lauded athletes in CIY Barracuda history, Dwayne brings both his experiences and knowledge
of our program’s goals to the pool each day. Dwayne is well known for his steady hand and demanding workouts.
In addition has been a YMCA staff member in various capacities and locations for many years. Dwayne has
participated in and coached swimming at many levels, including previously spending time as a Barracuda coach
for 3 years. And it is exciting to have him lending help with the Barracudas since his return to the CIY in 2007.
When not at the Y or making meet entries, Dwayne manages the pool in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
